when I grow up I want to be a surgeon what I major in journalism do you want to be pediatricians local signs like my boy ice Community my end goal is to become a neurosurgeon I want to come back to my community and help them afford the health care and availability of assistance that they education really is about social justice it makes it easier for them to see the benefit of coming to school if you can make those connections to their lives their community is this helping them to be better and there will be a better place in Los Angeles starting high schools and most people said don't do high schools that is too late for those kids and we found out that it's not too late distance with disabilities they rise to meet those expectations it was about finding that school that I would feel safe that as well as a rigorous education play mr. Watson first Vehicles like these are the standards that kids at a private high school wouldn't learn who am I to like dumb down the standards because come here obviously you're human being you're capable of learning the first 10 years at Alliance the focus was really on providing a very different set of opportunity San access for low-income students and we dramatically succeeded in that our graduation rate is 95% or College acceptance Fitness in the upper 90s actually grew up in the area stopping at something that I wanted to do was I return back to my community and I wanted to be in front of the class with every single day is through this we actually see when is possible to come up out of his community and do something positive here will be first generation college students and I myself was a first-generation college student when you get all of these amazing people working together and everybody's in it for the students there's a buzz in the air and teachers and stuff for all modeling that idea of of being learners sing the day repeat every year you can tell if they're growing each year and unlike perfecting their methods  one thing I can honestly at S2 is is the it is required of our teachers there's really no excuses for love there's no excuses for showing up and not doing your job and so we carry on students I see you with the squirrel on the UAB Stole Christmas promise and Rosie you can't help but be inspired you can't help but want to commit more you feel the love when you come in here will you have now built up to 27 schools 12,000 kids middle schools and high schools at every child's being accepted in college and we're working hard to make sure that every child Dwight's from call we have really been able to prove that exceptional is the rule when you learn something new would really is like knowledge is power haven't accepted to Brown and Williams Boston University Georgetown College UC Berkeley can I see a group of kids are going to make incredible change in their communities and in the city and Beyond do they tell us how well they're doing and how much they appreciate the experience that they had here of assault democracy is not a spectator sport I think we all have to be involved as Citizens in order to give every student the opportunity set these kids have gotten
