2019 Alliance Teacher of the Year Awards

Great teachers change us, make us believe in ourselves and brighten our outlook on the world and our future in it. Alliance Teacher of the Year awards give special recognition to teachers who are nominated by their school communities for their dedication inside and beyond the classroom, and their exceptional ability to engage scholars and activate their excitement for education.

Congratulations to our Alliance Teacher of the Year and our finalists!

Daniel Salvador - English Teacher

Alliance Patti and Peter Neuwirth Leadership Academy

Mr. Salvador is driven by his belief that his scholars––regardless of where they come from––deserve a high-quality education. He sets the expectations that scholars can grow-up in a historically underserved community, complete college, and then come back to their neighborhood to make a difference.

Justine Safar - English Language Arts Teacher

Alliance Jack H. Skirball Middle School

Ms. Safar’s commitment to preparing her scholars for college success is very personal. As a child of immigrants, her parents instilled in her the belief that education is a way to give back to your community and to your family.

Chelsea Culbert - Chemistry Teacher

Alliance Susan & Eric Smidt Technology High School

Ms. Culbert shares that her goal is to give her scholars challenging science content so they learn how to persevere and to show them that they can do it. Her work in the classroom, as a soccer and cross country coach, and her efforts to learn Spanish, have given Ms. Culbert a deep and meaningful connection to her scholars.

Chris Estrada - Math Teacher

Alliance Renee and Meyer Luskin High School

Mr. Estrada’s commitment to his scholars and the South Central community serves as a reminder of the significant impact that all Alliance teachers have on our young people’s lives.
