Principal Joy May-Harris is an established instructional leader with a proven track record of improving academic outcomes in inner-city schools. She has more than 15 years of teaching experience, including a position as the assistant principal at Alliance Judy Ivie Burton Technology Academy High School and later principal at Alliance Jack H. Skirball Middle School. Ms. May-Harris has a bachelor’s degree in African American studies from Florida A&M and a master’s in Educational Administration from California State University, Northridge.

Alliance Leadership Middle Academy is located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles, on the border of Inglewood. One of the oldest neighborhoods in LA, Hyde Park is primarily home to African American families.
