Two New High Alliance High Schools to Open in Fall 2011

We are pleased to add Alliance College-Ready Academy High School #16 and Alliance Technology and Math Science High School to the Alliance family of schools this fall. They join 18 Alliance schools already in operation across South and East Los Angels.

Alliance College-Ready Academy High School #16

This new school is located on the campus of Belmont High School, at 1575 W 2nd Street in Los Angeles.  The school will open with a 9th grade class on August 15, 2011.  Applications are still being accepted.  For more information, visit the school's website.

The school will be lead by Principal Carmen Vazquez-Mancini, a long time educator who specializes in best practices in working with students of diverse cultures and ethnicities.  She served as assistant principal at Alliance Dr. Olga Mohan High School, one of the top performing high schools in LAUSD, and also participated in the Alliance Principal Intern Program before assuming her role as principal at Alliance College-Ready Academy High School #16.

Alliance Technology and Math Science (ATAMS) High School

ATAMS will be part of the Sonia M. Sotomayor Campus that LAUSD is opening at Taylor Yard -- 2050 San Fernando Road, Los Angeles, CA, 90065.  The campus will house five small learning communities: three pilot schools and two charter schools.  ATAMS is honored to be one of the two charter schools chosen to operate on the campus.  The school will open with grades 9-11 on August 15, 2011.  Applications are still being accepted.  For more information, visit the school's website.

ATAMS will use the Blended Learning for Alliance School Transformation (BLAST) model that incorporates distance learning, digital content, online courses and interactive tools with traditional instruction.  The school will be led by Dr. Michelle Tubbs, Principal.  A specialist in math and science education, Dr. Tubbs was a teacher for over twenty years and has worked with the Teacher Education Research Center and the National Science Foundation. Prior to her role at ATAMS, Dr. Tubbs served as the Director of Math Instruction for Alliance College-Ready Public Schools and, most recently, as the founding Principal of Alliance College-Ready Academy High School #11.
