Alliance Skirball Middle School utilizes the Blended Learning for Alliance School Transformation (BLAST) education model, which provides each student with a laptop and uses a wide variety of technological tools to prepare them for success in college and future careers.  To read more about the BLAST model, click here.


Alliance Skirball Middle School is located in Willowbrook, on the border of Watts. One of the most densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles, the area is primarily home to African American and Latino families.


84% Latino, 16% African American, and 1% Other, 17% English Language Learner (ELL) students, 97% Free/Reduced Meal Program Participants.




Marco Ibarra has been in education over nine years. Prior to becoming a principal at Alliance Jack H. Skirball Middle School, he was a teacher at Alliance Peter & Patti Neuwirth Leadership Academy and assistant principal at Alliance Collins Family College-Ready High School. His goal is to support middle school students successfully transition into college-preparatory high schools. Mr. Ibarra has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Cal Poly Pomona and master's degree in School Leadership and a certificate in Charter School Leadership from Loyola Marymount University.
