Alliance Skirball Middle School utilizes the Blended Learning for Alliance School Transformation (BLAST) education model, which provides each student with a laptop and uses a wide variety of technological tools to prepare them for success in college and future careers. Alliance Skirball Middle School is located in Willowbrook, on the border of Watts. One of the most densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles, the area is primarily home to African American and Latino families.

Joy May-Harris is an established instructional leader with a proven track record of improving academic outcomes in inner-city schools. She has more than 15 years of teaching experience and excelled as the Assistant Principal at Alliance Judy Ivie Burton Technology Academy High School for two years prior to taking over as Principal at Alliance Skirball Middle School. Ms. May-Harris has a bachelor's degree in African American studies from Florida A&M and a master's in Educational Administration from California State University, Northridge.
