Alliance O'Donovan Middle Academy utilizes the Blended Learning for Alliance School Transformation (BLAST) education model, which provides each student with a laptop and uses a wide variety of technological tools to prepare them for success in college and future careers.  To read more about the BLAST model, click here.


Alliance O’Donovan Middle Academy is located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles. One of the oldest neighborhoods in LA, Hyde Park is primarily home to African American families.

Alliance O’Donovan is part of the Alliance Ouchi/O’Donovan 6-12 Education Complex. The school shares a campus with Alliance William & Carol Ouchi High School. Alliance O’Donovan students are automatically eligible to enroll at Alliance Ouchi High School in 9th grade without participating in a public lottery.

Principal Profile

Edith Marlene Funes has been working in education for more than 10 years, with a primary focus on the charter school system. She has worked as both a high school teacher and school administrator. Prior to taking over as Principal at Alliance Christine O’Donovan Middle Academy, Ms. Funes was a Site Administrator at Alliance Judy Ivie Burton Technology Academy High School. She holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills, as well as a master's degree from Loyola Marymount University.
