BLAST

Alliance Merkin Middle School utilizes the Blended Learning for Alliance School Transformation (BLAST) education model, which provides each student with a laptop and uses a wide variety of technological tools to prepare them for success in college and future careers.  To read more about the BLAST model, click here.
 

Community

Alliance Merkin Middle School is located in the Pico-Union neighborhood west of downtown Los Angeles. Pico-Union serves as a point-of-entry for many Latino immigrants, and is primarily populated by families from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Hondouras.

Alliance Merkin is part of the Alliance Gertz-Ressler/Richard Merkin 6-12 Education Complex. The school shares a campus with Alliance Gertz-Ressler High School. Alliance Merkin students are automatically eligible to enroll at Alliance Gertz-Ressler in 9th grade without participating in a public lottery.

Principal Profile

Donna Jacobson began her career in education as a teacher in the Inglewood Unified School District where she also served as an administrator at the elementary level. Before joining the Alliance, she served as Assistant Principal at Culver City Middle School. Ms. Jacobson has a master's degree from Loyola Marymount University and is completing her doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California.
