Returning Students and Waiting Lists
Enrollment projections for the 2006-2007 school year point to continuing growth and appeal of Alliance Charter Schools. Over 98% of first-year students will return in September to continue their College-Ready education, according to reports from the four campuses.
Those campuses will also welcome full enrollments of the second group of ninth graders to the high schools and sixth grade students to the middle school. In College-Ready High Schools, the classes identify themselves by the years they will graduate from college. These newcomers will be the Class of 2014.
Recruiting was different this year from last. “Word of mouth is very strong,” says Principal Howard Lappin. “Parents began to call about applications last fall.” This was also the first year that parents could apply online as well as on paper.
Waiting lists are also growing. Each of the first four Alliance charter schools has one, on average 50 names in length. “We have parents who call almost every day,” reports Laura Galvan, Principal of Huntington Park College-Ready Academy High School. “They are really determined to get their children included.”
With two grades in each established school and inaugural ninth grades in three others, the total Alliance enrollment in September is expected to top 1900 students.
