Here Come #5 and #6
Two new public charter grants have been awarded to the Alliance for College-Ready High Schools, which will increase the number of schools in the network to six.
The California Department of Education approved a $360,000 implementation grant and a $405,000 start up grant for each school. The state go-ahead supports the Alliance timeline of opening 20 college-ready high schools in Los Angeles’ urban neighborhoods by 2010.
The Alliance submitted 5 new charter petitions to LAUSD to serve overcrowded communities for the fall of 2006. Opening new schools is, of course, contingent upon finding suitable facilities in time and raising sufficient funds to support the shortfall of funds not provided through public school funding.
