As summer begins, we can take a breath to reflect on what a momentous school year 2006-2007 has been for the Alliance. On May 24th, we announced a $10 million gift to the Alliance, donated by the Broad Foundation and several Board members. The Broad Foundation's lead gift of $6.5 million is a true testament to the strength of this organization and to the outstanding opportunities it provides the children of Los Angeles, particularly those in over-crowded, low-income communities. These generous funds will help us to move forward with our growth plan to add 13 new Alliance schools within the next four years.

At this time of growth, I am especially pleased to welcome aboard our newly-hired Chief Academic Officer David Linzey, who will be joining us in early July.  David will enable the Alliance home office to provide even greater academic support to its principals, teachers, and students, and we are excited to have him on our team.

Every time I visit one of the Alliance schools, I am always impressed by the caliber of instruction and inspired by the staff dedication to ensuring that every one of our students meets his or her full potential.  Thank you to the entire Alliance team for all your hard work!
