Two Community Leaders Join Alliance Board
David S. Cunningham, III, highly regarded attorney specializing in real estate and redevelopment law, and Eva Stern, whose initiative in the area of education and outreach to at-risk young people is well known, joined the Board of Directors of the Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools in May.
For nearly 25 years, Mr. Cunningham has been an active attorney as well as public service leader. He is a partner at Kelly Lytton & Vann LLP with expertise in such diverse issues as real estate and goodwill valuation, relocation eligibility and assistance, and condemnation. His career includes precedent-setting cases such as Worldwide Enterprises, Inc. vs. LACRA, a matter that helped clarify provisions of the Eminent Domain Law. He is an honors graduate of the University of Southern California and New York University Law School. His leadership in the community includes serving on numerous boards including the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners where he served as President for two years, the Urban League Board of Directors, the LAUSD Governance Commission, and the Board of Directors for the Midnight Mission.
As a clinical social worker and educator, Eva Stern brings a broad based perspective of educational reform that emphasizes the need for engaging students, teachers, and the community. As chair of InsideOUT Writers, a creative writing program for at risk and incarcerated youth, Ms. Stern brings experience in managing a non-profit that focuses on youth learning in adverse environments. Among the philanthropic organizations, Ms. Stern was chair of Parents who Care, a community-based drug education organization. She also supports a wide range of programs in education and the arts through the Marc and Eva Stern foundation. She has a bachelor’s degree in education from Hunter College and masters in social work from USC.
