Community

Alliance Neuwirth Leadership Academy is located in the South Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles. The area is primarily home to African American and Latino families. The community is mainly served by non-charter public high schools, many of which are low-performing and overcrowded.
 

Demographics and Average Daily Attendance

94% Latino and 6% African American, 14% English Language Learner (ELL) students, and 96% free or reduced meal program participants. 
 

Principal Profile

Miguel Gamboa became principal of Alliance Patti & Peter Neuwirth High School in 2015. Prior to that, he served as the school’s assistant principal for five years and was an Alliance principal resident for two years. Before joining Alliance Neuwirth Leadership Academy, Mr. Gamboa spent four years at Alliance Renee and Meyer Luskin High School where he began as a teacher and later became the dean of students. He holds a bachelor’s in kinesiology from San Diego State University and a master’s in administration from Loyola Marymount University. He graduated Magna Cum Laude for both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. Prior to his career in education, he served in the United States Navy. Mr. Gamboa currently serves as a supervisor for candidates at Loyola Marymount University’s school administrator program. Having grown up in the communities Alliance serves, it brings Mr. Gamboa great satisfaction to contribute to the future success of students who attend Alliance Neuwirth Leadership Academy.
